Today’s Сase Study describes how Andrew Pope, Flash games developer from Vancouver, benefits from using Flash Optimizer.

industry: videogames developer

Andrew Pope started creating Flash games during particularly boring lectures in university. He enjoyed the process and released a couple of games for sponsorship on flash portals. He also started his own company, Sunshower Games, where he worked on a number of social games for Facebook.

Alex Taylor: What challenges made you search for the software of this kind?

Andrew Pope: Creating a Flash portal game is often-times a battle between packing in high-quality images/audio and keeping file size low. High-quality content is important to peak player’s interests and keep them engaged, and a small file size is crucial to meet sponsorship demands and to ensure a quick pre-load time. I didn’t want to compromise on either of these things, so I began searching for options.

Alex Taylor: How did you get to know about Flash Optimizer by Eltima Software?

Andrew Pope:: I was searching for techniques to optimize Flash files and the search came up with the Flash Optimizer, so I figured I’d give the trial a shot.

Alex Taylor: Did you try other products for the same task before choosing Eltima solution? Why did you prefer our product?

Andrew Pope: I did try another program which claimed to be able to optimize swf’s. However, I couldn’t get it working: it kept crashing when I tried to optimize anything flash player 10 and up.

Alex Taylor: Please, describe how you are using our product now.

Andrew Pope: Right now I’m working on a Flash game with some heavy art assets. I’ve tried some flash jpeg compression using the Flash IDE, but I’ve had to drop the quality of the images significantly to reach the target size. I tested the trial version of the Flash Optimizer and I was able to drop the same file about sixty percent, and that was with the default settings.

Alex Taylor: How did you benefit from using Eltima solution?

Andrew Pope:In addition to the jpeg/png’s within swf’s that I’ve tried compressing, I did a quick test on some vector graphics made within Flash, and I had a 200kb file shrink to about 50kb. I’m looking forward to use the Flash Optimizer to help pack in as much content as I can in future projects.
